Review of Where the Red Fern Grows

 Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls, is about a boy named Billy Coleman who buys two hound dogs to hunt raccoons for money. For two years Billy saved up for two hound dogs. He named them Little Ann, and Old Dan. The dogs were trained to become excellent hunters. During a hunt a kid named Rubin pickedup Billy's ax to kill the dogs. Rubin accidently fell and was killed. Billy entered a comition for money, and won. A mountain lion kills Old Dan, then Billy kills that mountain lion. Little Ann dies after her brother dies, from a btoken heart. That is what happend in Where the Red Fern Grows.



 I think the theme of this book is growing up, and accepting responsibility. How he shows responsibility by saving money to buy two hound dogs. Billy is responsible in takeing care of Little Ann, and Old Dan. Billy is old enough to hunt raccoons all night, and do his chores. This proves that he is responsible, and grows up.



 I would recommend this book to other readers. In the book there are two great dogs. Billy and his dogs have wonderful adventures. Billy lives in old times with his dogs. That is why I would recommend this book to other reades.

Dillon's Book Review #1

My book Fever by Laurie Halse Anderson takes place in Philadelphia in 1793.  Maddie wakes up with her mother yelling for her to get up and work at their coffee shop called Cook's Coffee Shop.  Soon she finds out that her friend, Polly is dead; a week later another 64 people have perished.  Maddie and Grandfather tried to move to a new town to stay safe; however, the people protecting the town thought Maddie's grandfather had the yellow fever, so they are not allowed into the town.  They they are saved by a hospital by feeding and caring for Maddie and Grandfather.  Maddie and Grandfather went back to the coffee house and found the place vandalized; they lived there anyways for a couple of days before robbers broke in and killed Grandfather.  Mattie goes and tries to find help when she finds a little girl named Nell.  Eliza, a worker at Free African Society, takes care of Nell and Maddie.  After the fever passed, Maddie's mother comes back to her.  Maddie was lucky to have survive the fever of 1793.

I thought the book Fever by Laurie Halse Anderson was a good book and I would recommend it to other book readers.  The characters in the book I was interested in if they died or got hurt.  The author wrote the book good using good description and a lot of action.  I thought the story was entertaining by what was included in the story.  I liked the idea of the book because the subject was exciting.  I think everybody should read this book.

The theme of the story is person vs. nature.  I think that because Maddie had to survive from nature.  Nature tries to kill Maddie because of the Yellow Fever.  The Fever also tries to kill Maddie through starvation.  Nature tried to kill her from heat waves that caused her to become dehydrated.  That is what I think the theme of the book is.

Dillon the best Pencil There Ever Was

When I grow up I think I'd make a great pencil.I've always enjoyed lead One of my favorite things to do is drawing big pictures.I even had some experience at being a writer.I'm really good at writing, I draw, and I erase, therefor, I will be the best pencil that ever was.

Writing has always come naturally to me.There was that time when I wrote a 5 paragraph essay.I'm always writing.Whenever I write, I am happy.Being able to write is the first step along the path to becoming a pencil.

Drawing is another thing I really enjoy.It's so exciting to draw pictures.When I'm drawing I feel like a happy pencil.I am to drawing what Leonardo da vinci is to painting.Being able to draw for the rest of my life would be awesome!

Erasing takes a special talent.I gained a lot of experience at a school where I was erasing.I learned a lot about  erasing pencil marks.For example, I erased a whole  paragraph.The time I spent erasing is sure to give me an advantage when it comes to becoming a pencil.

The three most important ingredients required in order to become a successful pencil are writing, drawing, and erasing, and I've got them all!I want to write, draw, erase.I'm never so happy as when I'm in the midst of erasing.It's like being sharp said, " Mr.Allison.When I write, I am happy and that's why I'll be the best pencil there ever was!
